Electric Premium Sedan of the Year

IM5 EV

Between the two fresh-off-the-boat twins from IM Motors, keener drivers will probably appreciate the IM5 sedan. It shares all of its higher-riding sibling's tech (blind spot monitors on steroids, rear-wheel steering, and more), but boasts far sharper handling. And even in Cat A guise, it delivers plentiful punch thanks to the whopping 450Nm of torque on tap. Tying it all up, its cosseting cabin and crisp screens lend strong credence to its premium ambitions.

Verdict

When you're a newcomer up against two heavyweight rivals, you've got to bring your A-game just to compete. But the IM5 has gone much further not just by offering more features but also ensuring that they work flawlessly.

Its four-wheel steering for instance, shrinks turning circles at low speeds while providing greater stability when cruising. And it also lets the car 'crab walk' by moving laterally into parking spaces, making parallel parking a breeze.

The IM5 also has a hugely impressive interior. Apart from being well-made, the dashboard's three-screen setup is user-friendly and intuitive - even for first-time users. Cushy seats all around and generous rear legroom further raise the comfort level for all on board.

When it comes to the drive, the IM5 Sport with 300kW (402bhp), and the IM 5 Performance with 572kW (767bhp) and 802Nm of torque will appeal to enthusiasts. Even the IM5 Luxury, which has 109kW (146bhp) can elicit wows with its 450Nm of torque - the most offered by a Cat A COE model.

Whichever variant you choose, the IM5 offers a polished driving and technological experience that's far beyond what rivals offer. It truly deserves to be named the Electric Premium Sedan of 2025.
